Task 3.1: Google Site-Specific Search
Week 3 · Learn and Reflect
Use Google site-specific search to find information within specific domains (e.g. government sites). This helps you verify claims and find primary sources.
The technique
Syntax: "search terms" site:domain.com
Examples: "emergency alert" site:gov.hk · "fire services" site:legco.gov.hk · "rare disease" site:ha.org.hk
Steps for students
Step 1: Practice the technique
Choose a topic related to your group project. Do site-specific searches (e.g. Group 6: "rare disease" site:ha.org.hk). See the full task for your group’s suggested searches.
Step 2: Document your findings
For each search, record: search query, number of results, most useful result, URL, and one key fact.
Step 3: Reflect (post on Moodle)
Answer: (1) What did you search for and why? (2) What useful information did you find? (3) How might this help your group project? (4) What limitations did you encounter?
Submission
- First reply (Week 3): Post search query, what you found, and at least one useful URL.
- Edit around Week 5: Add more searches, deeper reflection, and links to your group project.
Post your response on the Moodle forum by the deadline.
